Dr. Oscar A. Aguilar

Principal Investigator

 

Dr. Aguilar was born in El Salvador, but due to a civil war, his family seeked asylum in Canada. He was raised in Ottawa, Ontario where he completed his B.Sc in Biochemistry and a M.Sc. with Prof. Ken Storey at Carleton University. He then completed his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto working with Prof. James Carlyle. For his Post-Doctoral training, he joined Prof. Lewis Lanier’s lab at UCSF and was later recruited as faculty. He enjoys soccer and boxing.

 

Maria D. Gonzalez-Hinojosa

Medical student

Maria was recruited by Dr. Aguilar to join Prof. Lewis Lanier’s lab as a Junior Specialist after completing her B.Sc. at UCLA. She decided to stay at UCSF for her Medical training. She is a proud native of Oakland and enjoys spending time with her sisters.

 

Janice Arakawa-Hoyt

Staff Research Assistant

Janice worked with Prof. Lewis Lanier has been instrumental in helping the Aguilar lab get up and running. She is a die-hard LA Dodgers fan.

 

Ameyalli Ordoñez

Undergraduate Summer Intern

As a rising Junior at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. I have thoroughly enjoyed the professional work environment and the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team. I am proud native to the Bay Area – born and raised in San Francisco.
